Buenos Aires Receives the First Bitcoin Forum
Bitcoin is changing the way people use their money in Argentina. Since the 1930s, the nation had a long history of policy mismanagement. Argentina is once again under a heavy inflation, making the national currency lose its value; that’s why Bitcoin is seen as an escape from this condition and is being widely adopted in the country.
The Auditorium of the new city government headquarters in Patricios Park was the chosen place to run the First Buenos Aires Bitcoin Forum. The Forum is being organized in a partnership between the City government, two non-profits (NGO), Bitcoin Argentina and Bitcoin Latin America along with the local Bitcoin community.
A number of large American companies have started accepting Bitcoin payments, but so far they have seen little or no economic incentive for their customers to pay with Bitcoins. The organizers of the forum are looking to change this.

The Argentinian Bitcoin Landscape
For Bitcoin Argentina and Bitcoin Latin America, it makes perfect sense for a place like Argentina to be fertile ground for a digital currency:
The number of Bitcoin users in Argentina is relatively small, but Argentina has been quietly gaining renown as the first and almost the only place where Bitcoins are being regularly used for real commercial transactions. The Bitcoin community in Buenos Aires has been vibrant enough to give birth to the Bitcoin Embassy in Buenos Aires, a four-story building that serves as the office to eight start-ups whose businesses depends on the Bitcoin network.
The best-known Bitcoin start-up in Argentina, BitPagos, is helping more than 200 hotels, both cheap and boutique, take credit-card payments from foreign tourists. A new and popular online retailer, Avalancha, began accepting Bitcoin in 2014 and since then the company has seen the volume of transactions steadily grow.
Less than half of the population use Argentine banks and credit cards and even wealthy Argentines fear of keeping their money in the country’s banks. With this initiative, the forum organizers are looking to deliver a bigger understanding to businesses, entrepreneurs, companies and anyone who is interested in using the digital currency.
